Welcome to Gwithian Class!
Year 4 is a year of exciting projects and learning adventures! This term, our project is all about Mining! Our leading question is: 'Thinking about the past, present and future, why is mining so important to Cornwall?', focusing on how mining has shaped and changed our region over the years and how it may continue to shape it in the coming years. We will also recognise ways in which traditions and the Cornish way of life has changed over time. We have LOTS of visits planned, including an outreach from Clint at Geevor Tin Mine, followed by a trip to Geevor Tin Mine and a trip to Kresen Kernow to see the old records from the Levant mine disaster.
Our authentic outcome is to develop an inventive design to package traditional food, which would enable a person to dine in a mine. You will enter the Dragons’ Den (St Hilary’s version) to showcase the product!
Times table practise will be set on a Monday, to be learnt for a quiz each Friday.
An additional piece of homework will be set on a Friday, to be handed in on a Tuesday.
Homework will be set on SeeSaw. If and when possible, it would be lovely for you to share any of your child’s successes at home via SeeSaw so we can have a greater understanding of their achievements out of school.
Children should also read for at least 15-20 minutes each night to improve reading fluency and comprehension. Please also make use of our fantastic school resources such as TT Rockstars and Ed Shed - log ins for both will be in your child's planner.
PE is on a Friday. Please come ready for PE wearing your St Hilary PE kit.
