Key Stage 1 Reading Schemes:

Phonics - Phonics is taught following the government publication 'Letters and Sounds' until July 2022. From September, we will be using the Twinkl phonics programme.

Reading schemes - We currently use a range of book publishers in order to give the children a wide variety of choice and to ensure that the range of books cover the widest range of skills and interests as possible. The books are split into the Phonic Phases (phase 2-6) so that children can read books including sounds that they have learnt and are practising.

The publishers we currently use are:
Oxford Reading Tree
Collins Big Cat
Floppy's Phonics
X-Project
Fireflies
Rigby S Star
Snapdragons
Read, Write, Inc.
Bug Club
ORT All Stars
ORT True Stories
ORT Fact Finders

Accelerated Reader

Children begin to access Accelerated Reader throughout KS1 and continues to use it throughout KS2. Each child is assessed termly (using the Star Reading Test) and then given a ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) and a personalised target. The children choose books from the library within their ZPD, read the book and complete a comprehension/vocabulary quiz on completion.

Teachers have access to a wide range of data about the children's attainment and progress in reading and use this to structure future provision.

Reading VIPERS

We use VIPERS to teach our children specific reading skills. Questioning links to the different skills and these are definitely something you can use at home as well!
